Not only is Mortal Kombat: Armageddon the last Mortal Kombat of the current generation of characters and storylines (MK1-MK: Armageddon), it's the last MK game to be released on the now past generation video game consoles PlayStation 2 and X-Box. Even though MK:A marked the end of era of all the current characters and events we've all come to know and love, it came packed with content no one could have ever imagined possible for a fighting game.

Shang Tsung & FrostMK:A is easily best know for its insane character roster consisting of over 60+ characters! Excluding the side adventure titles Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (besides Sareena), Mortal Kombat: Special Forces and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, MK:A jam packs every kombatant who ever threw a punch in the fighting titles. Naturally with a roster as big as MK:A's, a few cut backs were forced to be made due to the limited amount of disc space available and time restraints. Number one being the removal of a second fighting style thus making style branching combos (both featured in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Deception) no longer possible. Like the missing fighting styles, MK:A is the first MK to use recycled alternate costumes from previous games in the series and not every character even has an alternate outfit. MK:A is also the first MK to not include character biographies. When the overwhelming fan outcry spread throughout the online MK community for the lack of bios, Midway and the MK Team responded to the fans and released them one by one on the official web site.

Kreate-A-FighterSo, is MK:A just another Mortal Kombat Trilogy? Not if you count what else the game has brought to the table. Konquest made its return in an MK: Shaolin Monks adventure style form, Kreate-A-Fighter mode allowing custom made characters, a Motor Kombat mini game which plays much like Mario Kart and the new controversial custom Kreate-A-Fatality system abandoning character specific Fatalities for the first time. Although some may argue that the reduced depth of the returning Krypt decreases replay value, it proves more useful for the casual player.
